Why the carpet ripples and what stretching actually fixes

You catch a toe on a ridge in the hallway. Waves show up in the bedroom by afternoon light. They flatten under furniture, then come back. Cleaning does not fix this. Low-pile Berber loops from the 1990s and 2000s need a gentler hand. Hard stretcher teeth can pop a loop row. Delamination is checked first. Stairs are re-tacked, not stretched.
